The FIG License - FIG.org

You have reached this page because a Creator made some Information and chose to allow everybody in the world to benefit from it. This means that the Information was either in the public domain, or under a license that allows you to share, modify, and redistribute the Information without having to pay any royalties.

FIG stands for many things, and freedom of information is one of them. Members of the FIG Project are dedicated to serving the public with our creativity.

It is obvious how putting information in the public domain benefits others. However, we believe that copy-centered licensing (which began as copyleft) is an even better alternative. You can read the current draft of the Meaning of FIG to understand more about our idea of copy-centering.

FIG.org intends to copy-center all of its original work by putting it under the FIG License (part of the Meaning of FIG). However, since this license is still under development, and we know of no other copy-centered licensing terms, we are using copyleft as a temporary solution.

We use the GNU General Public License, which we believe is the perfect expression of copyleft. If you want to learn more about the idea of copyleft, or how it can be applied to non-software works, you should read this article.
