FIG: Free Information Gathering

You have reached this page because somebody chose to create some information and allow everybody in the world to benefit from it. This means that the information was either in the public domain, or copylefted.

FIG stands for far more than just Free Information Group, but freedom of information is an important step to accomplishing our goals. FIG.org is dedicated to serving the public with our creativity.

It is obvious how putting information in the public domain benefits everybody. However, we believe that copyleft is an even better alternative. (If you're unfamiliar with the idea of copyleft, you should read this article.)

FIG.org copylefts all its work by putting it under the GNU General Public License, and by using the `FIG' pseudonym as the copyright holder. We believe that this is the most effective way to guarantee the public availability of the information we produce.

FIXME: In the future, this page will contain many more details about our motivation and reasoning in that regard. For now, you'll have to be content with that brief description, taken in conjunction with Michael Stutz's article.
