Crossing the North Sea to Bremerhaven

When leaving Edinburgh, we faced wind-force six, head wind. So instead of setting sails, the engine was started.

You can do with one day head wind, even two, but the wind did only change in one respect: it grew stronger. Waves are beautiful, but not when they are at six meters of height, coming from the front, night and day. It was really the first time I got sea sick. Furthermore I was on the ,,rain-watch``, whenever my watch started, it started to rain. When someone of the preceding watch woke us, we were most often told, that there was wind, but no rain. When we got on deck, it surely rained! We were only lucky that the machines were working all the time, so we could at least dry our clothings.

The event that coined the name ,,MS Gloria from Blackwaterboldt``, was the pump, that was supposed to pump the waste water into the purification plant. It started to work the other way around. I leave it to you to imagine what this would mean to you, being on a ship... And it happened twice.

You won't be surprised to hear, that as the time went by, nearly everyone on bord get down a bit, I really do remember only one girl who never lost her smile.

This cruise will be unforgettable in the history of ,,Alexander von Humboldt``, as it was the one, we were not able to reach the harbour in time.

But for all that, most people said they would sail again.
